He's Here!

Ok, so here goes! William Daniel Sowards came finally at 11:57AM on September 8th, 2008. But lets first back up and start from the beginning. So in our last post we told you that we left the doctor's office on Friday morning with Kathy at 3cm and 80% effaced. Dr. Odom told us that we would probably not make it to our appt. the following week. Well he turned out to be right. Friday night we ate dinner at Monterray's. Kathy ordered extra spicy salsa and we took a walk when we got home. Saturday the 6th, we ate Hot Wings for Lunch and kept walking all day. She was starting to have more regular contractions, but they weren't increasing in strength and they weren't quite close enough. So Saturday night came and we went to a wedding reception for some friends, while we were there Kathy started having stronger contractions and we thought, heck yeah, here he comes!! WRONG! We went home and got our stuff together and went walking. Sunday the 7th at 1:45AM is when the fun started. Kathy woke me up and told me to start helping her count contractions, because she had started to have painful ones. That would begin the longest consecutive amount of time without sleep in our entire lives. We ate hot wings again for lunch, and walked all over the neighborhood. We were doing great! Her contractions were starting to come more regular the farther along in the day we got. We were being helped by our great friends Kym and Cam Tuckfield, so the stress level was at a minimum. Around 9:00PM Kathy was starting to feel worse and worse. Finally, after a nice hot shower and an hour's worth of contractions about 3 minutes apart, we started out for Baptist Hospital at 10:45PM. We checked in to our room and they hooked Kathy up to the monitors and got her IV going and checked her out. WOW, she was 5cm and 90% effaced. She was progressing nicely and around 3AM on the 8th we were preparing for the delivery. This is where the fun started, all of a sudden Kathy's contractions started to stretch back out longer and longer. The nurse, continued to say that she was progressing nicely, but we were beginning to get frustrated. At 9AM, 31 hours after the first painful contraction, Dr. Moore arrived and informed Kathy she had to have her water broken manually and was going to be given 2 units of Pitocin to increase the frequency of her contractions. 5 minutes later, Kathy began the longest hour and a half in her entire life. Her contractions became super strong and about a minute and a half apart. At 10:30 AM, she decided she couldn't take it anymore and asked for an epidural. At 11:00AM, after her drugs are pumping, Dr. Moore determined that in 15 minutes, we were going to start pushing. So, anyways, after about 34 hours of labor at 11:57AM, Will finally made his appearance.

We were so excited, relieved, exhausted...etc. Our family that trooped through the long night was so excited and came in to greet us. This has been an extremely long post, so I'll make this next part brief. We stayed in the hospital until today and have been getting used to our new addition. We are so excited and love our little baby boy so much. He is perfect and we our finding that parenting is not so hard after all! Here are some more pics and there will be more posts to follow in the coming months!
